If I were your daddy, this is what you’ll learn
by Pete Bissonette
That's a title of a new book—If I Were Your Daddy, This is What You'd Learn—and one of the chapters was written by Paul Scheele. He shares the journey of raising his three boys, Ben, John, and Scott. You can download a copy of Paul's chapter free to read online. If you like it, you can order the book.
Here's a write-up about the book:
"If you are like most people, at some point in your life you have likely become terribly disillusioned with something. Perhaps it was work expectations that let you down, or marriage expectations, or disappointment in a business partnership or business success. You envisioned things going a certain way, only to find yourself deposited on a curb and left to find your own way home with a beaten up suitcase by your side full of useless tools. Eventually, you pick yourself up and check for bruises. Then, torn and deflated, feeling inadequate and ill-prepared for the journey before you, you start making your way in the direction of home.
Julia Espey expressed much the same in her introduction to her just-released book, If I Were Your Daddy, This is What You'd Learn. 'This journey began decades ago with a fantasy about what being a mother would be like. I imagined a fairy tale of home and family, a picket fence, a wonderful husband, and smiling kids holding hands. But it just didn't turn out that way.'
Fortunately for all of us, life rarely turns out the way we think it should. And it was no different for Julia. She expected to raise her son, Jackson, with his father nearby, but that scenario wasn't part of his plan. Now a solo mom, Julia felt inadequately prepared to be her son's father too. Ah…, here's the place that's fertile for something greater to begin to grow.
Out of this place of unease and disappointment, Julia concocted a plan—just the way life intended her to do all along. Instead of just one dad, Julia Espey went out and found thirty-five dads to mentor her son…including Paul.
If I Were Your Daddy is the fruit of her three-year journey of interviewing and delving into the fathering lives of thirty-five fascinating, high-functioning men—men who are great fathers too. CEOs, a Nobel Peace Prize recipient, philanthropic leaders, along with doctors, teachers, thought leaders and multi-millionaires are some of the amazing men that she pressed to tell her the success secrets they were passing on to their own children. This way, she reasoned, their wisdom would 'father' her child as well as theirs. Now it can help countless other children as well.
Out of Julia's disillusionment and pain was birthed a remarkable book that is truly a priceless gift to the world. This book isn't just for people with kids, it also speaks to anyone with unresolved fathering issues, because everyone who reads this book has the experience of being 'fathered' and in some way healed by these remarkable dads."
Paul was the first dad Julia asked to be a part of the book.
