Hey, I was wondering. Could you ask you unconscious for the meaning of logical questions? Like, can it interpret numbers? For instance, could you give it the problem of finding an algorithm for the fastest way through a network of nodes and get the answer? Could you ask it something number based like give it a very large and complex equation and have it output the answer somehow?

Good question. Why not try it and see?

well, i'm going to some time but i just wondering what the more experienced people thought of it. Like based on their knowledge of it would they think it was possible.

Anything is possible. Everyone will have their own experience with it and yours might be the best one yet. Why limit the possibilities?

danno, yes it can..

you're spot on

what your asking for is very possible. i can vouch for it personally.

here's a post i wrote a few days ago that explains some of the ways in which you can do what you're looking for...

the subject was about using hypnosis to solve sums instantly

---------------------------------------
if you guys are getting into self hypnosis.. one of the best methods is the betty erickson method. you can do a search on google for it.
as for improving maths skills. that can be easily accomplished with hypnosis, but you might want to see a professional to get it done right.

we all know that the unconscious mind is capable of processing data much much faster than the conscious mind, right? well, if i gave you a sum.. say 1789997654 + 52662728 .. you would proceed to sit down and consciously work through it. this may take you a minute, but you could do it.

so... if you can do that on a conscious level, then your unconscious can also do it.. but 50,000 times faster.

so, spontaneous solving of complex maths problems is more than possible if the unconscious mind is the faculty that processes the sum.

problem is.. how do you get the unconscious answer into consciousness? this can be done in a number of ways. you could suggest to your unconscious, via hypnosis, that when the problem is solved unconsciously, the answer will flash into consciousness.

or you could always give a suggestion for a certain hypnotic hallucination. then you could hallucinate a calculator and just use that.

just rememeber, anything you can do consciously, your unconscious mind can do thousands of times quicker. once you can access your unconscious via hypnosis, you will be able to solve problems faster than you could ever dream. and the possibilities dont stop at maths problems

to be able to do this by yourself will require a bit of practising to find a deep enough level of trance, but once you can do it, you can do it.

seeing a hypnotherapist to help you achieve this is advised. it will cost you about $50 for a session, but it will make self hypnosis much easier. plus you'll have someone with whom you can discuss the complexities of what you want to achieve.

good luck.

and any questions. just ask

Fascinating. I have tried auto-hypnosis before-- in fact, I've tried just about everything that one can do by oneself with minimal tools, etc.-- I had interesting experiences but I very rapidly reached a level of trance beyond which I couldn't progress. It was a very light, relaxed state, with no particularly interesting content. I'll have to try out the Betty Erickson stuff. If you want to post more about what particular things you use yourself I'm very interested in getting back into hypnosis, so please do! Image-streaming has been different than hypnosis in that my energy-levels really affected how well and how long I could do it...many times I sit down to image-stream, and, while the content may be interesting, the state isn't refreshing like meditation and hypnosis are, so I end-up giving in long before I'd like to. How well can you, yourself, solve mathematical problems using the 'spontaneous' hallucination hypnotic method?
All the best,
Kristoff Olafsson

Just to add 2 cents more...

I witnessed a simple demonstration of this when Dr. Roger Tabb in Beaverton Oregon showed me his methods for visual-perceptual training. After overloading the conscious mind's processing capacity (calling out letters on a sheet of paper while bouncing on a trampoline on alternate feet skipping every other letter on odd beats and catching a beach ball) he said "what is 7 times 5?"

After another 30 seconds or so the exercise stopped and he asked the subject, "What is the answer to the math problem?" She said, "What math problem?"

"I asked you a math problem during your exercise, don't try to remember, just tell me whatever number is in your head right now" he insisted.

"I don't know. Thirty-five!"

It was fascinating to me. He explained that the brain is perfectly capable of doing many tasks off-line, if given the proper impetus to do so.

Whether or not self-hypnosis is the route to give your brain the impetus may be debatable. But, heck, like AlexK said, try it!

kristoff...

i strongly advise you to get back into hypnosis again.. the possibilities are endless.
the betty erickson is a great method you can use by yourself. however, if you want to go a quicker and more reliable route, i would advise dishing out $50 or whatever to see a hypnotherapist. s/he will be able to take you to a level of trance necessary for this type of thing and then give you a posthypnotic trigger for going straight back in again, on your own.. perhaps.. saying the word "munchies".

if you practice using the trigger word for about a week.. you will be able to instantly slip into somnambulism in seconds, without fail.

as for your question about me...
i used to hallucinate a calculator that would do my sums instantly for me... but i looked like too much of a weirdo to other people, when they saw me playing with my "invisible calculator". so now, i have changed things, so that the answer immediately pops into my mind's eye, when i want the answer to a sum.

like i said, the best person to install such abilities would be a *skilled* hypnotherapist. this isnt your average smoking cessation or weight loss request, so make sure you can find someone who understands what you mean and is confident that they can achieve what you are looking for.

good luck, young jedi.

oh, just in case i didnt make things clear..

you dont need to be in a state of hypnosis to be able to do the tasks instantaneously.
you can be outside of trance, in a normal waking state, to have the ability available to you.

hypnosis is just used (maybe only once) to "install" this ability.

good luck

That could be troublesome. The mind seems to have a natural predisposition for thirty-five. One trick I learned to demonstrate psychic powers was, "Pick an odd number between one and 50, the first and second digits must be different." This usually generates 35, with 37 coming in a distant third. I'd like to see the same experiment repeated without using the number 35 or 42. (42 being a number sacred to nerds everywhere).
