I am having some trouble with the tangerine technique. I go through the relaxation and then I do the tangerine. When I open my eyes, at first everything is much more fluid and I can just glide through the material ( I think this alone has doubled or triples my reading speed), but then I lose it. I can't seem to hold the tangerine state for more than half a page in a stretch.

Nate,

If you find that you have lost the 'state', take a second to put the tangerine back on top and behind your head again. Keep doing this everytime you loose state, it takes a fraction of a second to do, but yields wonders!! In time, it will stick ... for good!

Good luck!

Humbily,

Michael

Nate how relaxed are you before you begin photoreading? I only ask because it sounds like your conscious mind might still be quite active if you are concerned about losing the tangerine.

Just a thought. I know that when I worry about losing the tangerine then I constantly lose it.

(I think that Paul mentions on one of the tapes that after you have established the tangerine you don't have to worry about it anymore because part of your attention will naturally stay focused on that point.) Now I don't worry about it and it works out much better for me.

I improved my success with the tangerine technique by using it at other times. I find it helpful when driving on highways, since it opens up my peripheral vision.
