Hey guys! Hope you still remember me

I'd like to know how long does it take for you guys to study each chapter in the text book till you get that "you've got all you need for the exam" feeling.

Superread and dipping works when you want to find the ans to the study questions at the end but im finding that i have absolutely no idea where to go after the study questions.....its like i want more and i don't know what i want......natually one would then rapid read right? Thats exactly waht i do but i'm finding that i spend way too much time rapid reading for the little extra stuff i want to get from each chapter

I think part of the problem i have is not keeping up with my studies everyday after the lecture. Paul suggest in the PR book that i mind map my class notes and dig into the chapter in the text to augment that mind map..... its so frustrating....i know what i have to do but im just not doing it.

Other than that PR has been working GREAT!

I really don't have to read chapters like in math, I just MM how to do a problem and then do a bunch of problems works great in math. Chemistry is a bit different. I would recommend PRing the Table of Elements. As many times a day as you can. Remember go from whole to parts on whatever you are reading. Dip in on definitions subheadings or anything that seems important to you. Things that the professor emphasises the most. Most of all ask the professor what he/she thinks you should study. I think that is one of the most successful things I've done. It really kind of grinds your purpose in stone. Hope that helps you some.

-Will

Elmo,

I am a chemistry tutor. The best way to study for chemistry exams are practice doing problems. I know this sounds long, but chemistry is mostly doing problems out. This is what I suggest you doing:

-Create mindmaps for lecture notes during the lecture.
-Preview, PR, Activate very quickly (the textbook)
-Do the work problems at the end of the chapter.
-If you cannot solve a problem, find the area in the textbook that explains that problem, rapid read it.
-Review your mindmaps before the exam.

With math, chemistry, and subjects like that, you just HAVE to do problems to prepare for the exam. I've found that PR improves the info consumption speed, esp when you're referring back to the chapter. Chemistry is a practical science. Good luck.

Thanks for the tips

just needed a schema

I have always been afraid of Chemistry because when i was back in HS all i did was just read and never really did the problems hence i have some really poor background in the areas of writing formulas and many more of the basic stuff like that.

Now that im into a little more advance chemistry (organic chem) i always tell myself that i've got poor background hence it should be really hard for me. What a silly limiting belief eh....this limiting belief has always made me fear Chemistry...chemistry is like the devil to me.

Yes.

Here's a book I recommend that complements any o chem textbook. REA's Problem Solvers Organic Chemistry. This book is unbelievably good. I usually hate study guides and review books, but I must say this book is VERY good. It can be found for under $30.

The whole book is full of every type of o chem problem possible. It is very well categorized. You do not read it like a normal book. You look up for topics in the table of contents or index, and you do the problems that are relevant to what you need to study. It is a very indepth book so there are many problems that you simply skip. Answers are right below the problems with full-blown explanations. It's like a 'trouble-shooting' book. All explanations, concepts, and theories are focused to specific problems, unlike how conventional textbooks have it the other way around.

Make sure you read the preface/intro to understand how to use the book. Good luck.
