I have a video coaching session for you on making sure your goals and dreams are sustainable. Please watch the video, do the ”Groundhog Day exercise,” and then keep reading below.
When you do goal setting, it’s great to set ambitious and magnificent goals, but the way you plan to get there needs to be sustainable.
If it is framed as an extreme all-or-nothing journey, as soon as you make the slightest detour you start undercutting yourself, and your motivation and commitment slip away. So chunk your goals down into small, manageable steps that will gradually and inevitably move you toward the outcome you seek.
Remember to follow the other guidelines for a well formed goal, as specified in our Abundance for Life program.
- The goal should be written in positive terms of what you want more of or want to move toward.
- Goals should be oriented around things you can control
- Your goal should preserve the present positives. Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater!
- Your goal should be measurable and testable. You must be able to know when you’ve achieved it.
- Your goals should be worthwhile and built around things you really desire and value.
Burnout and overwhelm are just about inevitable when you are following a path that isn’t sustainable. Life is like a teeter totter that is not only constantly going up and down, but has a wobbly center axel. Everything can seem erratic, chaotic, and hopeless.
If this is where you are, don’t despair! You are at a crossroad with incredible potential, because you are ready and motivated to shift the paradigm. It’s as if all the puzzle pieces that create your life have been thrown up in the air and you get to decide what the new picture will be.
Experiment with the “Groundhog Day” exercise in this video, and use it as a springboard to create a sustainable, fulfilling life. When you are expressing the unique gifts you bring to the world your life will truly be a passionate, flowing and expansive journey!
